La Crosse Tribune, La Crosse, Wis., Wed., 6 Sept. 1950.

Lansing- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Burke Funeral home for Mrs. Sidney Pierce, 90, who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Hammell. The Rev. C. H. Willemssen officiated, then the body was shipped to Beresford, S.D., where services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Congregational church.

As Mary Virginia Wampler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Wampler, she was born in Union Prairie township, Allamakee county, Nov. 14, 1859. She taught rural schools in the county and on Oct. 1_, 1884, she was married to Sidney Pierce. He died Oct. 11, 1939.

Mr. and Mrs. pierce were the parents of four children. A son, Arthur, died as an infant and surviving are Mrs. Nora Hammel, Lansing, Mrs. Margaret Riddle, Dubuque, and Mrs. Blanche Williken, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
