Christina Schellhammer Zimmerman was born at Postville, Iowa, Sept. 15, 1889. She was united in marriage to William Zimmerman April 7, 1910. This union was blessed with four children, Herbert 14, Esther 9, Walter 4, and the infant Silvia born to them Jan. 5th, being one month old on the day of the mother’s death. After an illness of about five weeks she passed away at Grandview Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., Feb. 5, 1927.
She leaves to mourn her departure her loving husband, her dear children, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Schellhammer, Sr., three sisters, Mrs. Charles Rissman, Mrs. Ben Marti and Miss Laura, and four brothers, Gottleib, Charles, George and John Schellhammer. Besides the immediate family, a host of friends are saddened and grieved.
Her age at the time of her death was 37 years, 4 months and 20 days. According to our thinking it is all too soon for we believe she had much to live for. She loved the home in which she and husband had lived happily for more than sixteen years; here children were born to bless them and add to the joy of living. Although we would not have her leave us so early in life we must remind ourselves that our ways are not God’s ways nor are our thoughts His thoughts, but as far as the heavens are above the earth so far are his ways and thoughts above ours. So we humbly bow to His will, believing that “ God hath lead our loved one on and He can do no wrong.”
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the house at 1 o’clock and 2 o’clock from the Congregational church at Church, Iowa, of which the deceased was a faithful member and regular attendant. Services will be conducted in both the German and English languages, the pastor, Rev C.H. Hoffman officiating and the choir will sing special songs. Burial will take place in the Lansing Ridge cemetery.
