Lansing- Richard "Dick" Peters, 62, died of cancer Thursday, July 1, 2004, in his home. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, by Father Daniel Knipper. Burial: Gethsemane Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, with a parish Scripture service at 8 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Lettie; three children, Ken Peters of Aurora, Ill., Kim Bruce of Lansing and Kip Peters of Cedar Rapids; and five siblings, Bob, Don and Tom Peters, all of Lansing, Vince Peters of Sandwich, Mass., and Helene Peters of Decorah.

Richard "Dick" Peters, age 62, of Lansing, Iowa, died Thursday morning, July 1, 2004, at his home in Lansing following a courageous battle with cancer as a result of Agent Orange. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Following the service, Dick's 1946 Ford Club Coupe will lead a Classic Car Cruise procession to Gethsemane Cemetery for burial with military rites accorded by the Gustav F. Kerndt Post #5981 of the VFW. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is in charge of arrangements.

Dick was born in Lansing November 17, 1941, to Clemon and Helen (Wagner) Peters. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1960.

He married Collette "Lettie" Folk March 23, 1968, in Racine, Wis.

Dick served in the Marines from 1966 to 1970 and did a tour in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.

Dick was self-employed for 32 years, operating Peters Auto Body in Lansing. He was very proud of the 1946 Ford Club Coupe he restored.

He was a member of the VFW and played and managed baseball teams for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Lettie Peters of Lansing; three children, Ken (Carrie) Peters of Aurora, Ill., Kim Bruce of Lansing, and Kip Peters of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Emmaline, Reid, Colin, Maggie, Alison, and Benjamin; five siblings, Bob (Mary) Peters of Lansing, Don (Lea Ann) Peters of Lansing, Tom (Mary) Peters of Lansing, Vince (Pam) Peters of Sandwich, Mass., and Helen Peters of Decorah; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Evelyn Peters.
