Elmer O. Lenz, 77, of New Albin, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, in St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, where he was a patient for five weeks.

He was born march 6, 1892 in Crooked Creek township, Houston County, to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lenz. He was educated in the rural school and moved to New Albin in 1912 to learn the harness trade and operated his own shop until he entered the Army in 1918. he resumed the business after returning home. He was also employed by the Lansing Co. and Mendenhall Lumber Co.

On March 20, 1921, he was married at Waukon to Mattie Hayes who is his only survivor. One sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Lenz was a veteran of World War I when he spent one year overseas. he was a 50 year member of the American Legion. he served on the volunteer fire department; for two years on the town council and was president and secretary of the Community Club.

he served as a newspaper carrier for the La Crosse Tribune in New Albin for nine years beginning in 1952 and was the local correspondent for the Tribune at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. Hidetoshi Tanaka officiated and burial was in the New Albin cemetery. Military services were conducted by the New Albin V.F.W.

Casketbearers were Earl Welsh, Leon Hosch, peter Hartley, Edgar Wuennecke, Cleon Sires and Leslie Dresselhaus.
