Waukon, Ia., Jan. 28 - Allamakee relatives received word Tuesday afternoon of the accidental death of Miss Mary Hartley of Chicago, who died at the hospital where she had been taken following an automobile accident that day. Her brother, Ben Hartley, of Union City township, left at once to make funeral arrangements, the body being brought to her old home here and burial in Mount Hope cemetery.
Miss Hartley was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hartley of French Creek township and was born on the homestead, May 6, 1875. After completing her high school education she attended Cedar Falls State Normal and the Northwestern university where she specialized in public speaking, which work she followed as a profession.
She is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Charles Berkey, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Adell Mosher, La Crosse, Wis.; Mrs. McClintock, Waukon; Mrs. Helen Hartley, Stockton, Cal.; Ben, New Albin; Sydney and Lewis, Janesville, Wis.; Thomas, Fouchet, Wash.; Leonard, Spokane, Wis.; George, residing on the homestead in French Creek township, and S. Francis Hartley, the well known poet, Chicago.
