PASSED AWAY SAT. - FUNERAL TUESDAY

Mrs. J. F. Clyde, a long-time resident of Osage, and the widow of the
well-know Judge Clyde died Saturday afternoon, after many months of
declining health. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church
Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in the Osage cemetery.

Harriet Louisa Wedgwood was born Jan. 8, 1851, in Stratham, N. H., the
daughter of John M. and Harriet Ricker Wedgwood. Her father was a
Baptist minister and had pastorates in New Hampshire and Maine.

In 1857, the family came west and settled near Ossian in Winneshiek
county. It was near Ossian in 1864 that the daughter was baptized by
her father.

Her girlhood and young womanhood were spent in Winneshiek and Allamakee
counties, and at the age of 14 she began teaching school. In 1868 she
came with a sister to attend Cedar Valley seminary, and she united with the
Osage Baptist church by letter in 1869. She and her sister kept house in
the home of Prof. Alva Bush (now the home of Attorney H.H. Matt) and it
was here that she met her future husband, J. F. Clyde.

After attending the seminary two years, she returned to her home and taught
school several years; thence on July 19, 1877, she was married at Waukon,
Iowa, to Mr. Clyde, the service being performed by her father. She and her
husband lived at Mitchell, St. Ansgar and Iowa City, then came to Osage in
1882. She reunited with the Baptist church here and was a continuous
member from that time till death -- a period of fifty years.

Eight children were born to the Clydes: Mary E.; Ray W.; Frank S.; Alva B.;
John J.; Flora Danforth; Arthur W.; and J. Fern. Alva and Fern preceded
their parents in death. Mr. Clyde died in 1927.

In addition to the children, Mrs. Clyde is survived by one sister,
Mrs. E. M. Hancock of Waukon, Iowa.
