Helen Fidel, "our Sweet Angel, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend", left this earth Wednesday, July 23, 2003, after many months of pushing her very sick body beyond its capacity. Funeral services were held Monday, July 28 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, Salt Lake City, Utah. Burial followed at Bountiful City Cemetery. Helen Joan Fidel came into this world January 28, 1929, in Waukon. She blessed the lives of her father, William Phillips, and mother, Harriet Ashbacher, brother Billy, and sister Virginia Stripp (who preceded her in death) and her kind and loving brother Jim (Helen) Phillips, whom she was so very proud of. Her life has been blessed beyond measure after marrying the love of her life, "My Phil". Together they loved, laughed, played, traveled, and set the most incredible example of the way a marriage should be. After 25 years working for Ma Bell, she retired and cherished her opportunity to finally be a housewife. Joan rejoiced in the love of her family: mother-in-law Jessie Fidel of New Mexico; sister-in-law Shirley (Ted) Kotch of Kansas; children Susan McDaniels of Washington, Steven (JoAnne) McDaniels of Washington, Nancy McDaniels of Bountiful, and Sally (Allan) Thompson of Kaysville; and her three grandchildren: Justin (Robyn) Nelson, Britney (Paul) Wilkinson, and Landon Nelson, who were truly the light of her life. Joan leaves behind many adoring relatives and friends who blessed her life and cherished her love and compassion. Her family will be forever grateful for the staff at LDS Hospital 6W, 8E, and 8W and for her most caring physician, Dr. William Reilly. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lupus Foundation Research 455 E. 500 S. LL2, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111.
