Ferne Brandt, age 83, of Lansing, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at her home in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted with arrangements.
Ferne was born in Lansing March 14, 1920, to Sherman and Elizabeth (Fitspatrick) Smith. She graduated from Lansing Immaculate Conception High School in 1938. She worked for the Lansing Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1992. Ferne enjoyed gardening. Survivors include a sister, Esther Spinner of Lansing, a sister-in-law, Irene Smith of Lansing; and a close friend, Don Peters, also of Lansing. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert, on January 24, 1993; a brother, Robert "Bud" Smith; and a niece, Joan Spinner. Casketbearers were Jeanie Carroll, Pat Keenan, Mickey Seitz, Peggy Larkin, Laurie Rethwisch, and Becky Miller.
