David John Amble, age 73, of Lansing, passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. A celebration of life service was held Friday, August 8 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Laura Gentry officiating. Arrangements were made by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa. Dave was born October 16, 1929, in Adams, Minn., the son of Jesse and Anna (Munson) Amble. He graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1947. Dave married Jean Johnson in 1951. He joined the Air Force where he taught electronics. After his discharge, he worked as a tool and die maker while attending Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, now the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1957. Dave married Nancy (Osen) Sherwood on August 3, 1970. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Dana/Echlin, retiring in 1995. He served on the Eastern Allamakee School District school board, the Lansing Marina Board, and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. Dave loved fishing the Mississippi River with his friends. He dearly loved his family and friends and will be missed by all. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; a son, David G. (Joan) Amble of Darien, Conn.; a daughter, Senator Michele (Marcus) Bachmann of Stillwater, Minn.; two sons, Gary (Lori) Amble of Shawnee, Kansas, and Dr. Paul (Margaret) Amble of Guilford, Conn.; two step-sons, Commander George (Marised) Sherwood of Allen, Texas, and Scott (Jennifer) Sherwood of Spring Grove, Ill.; a sister, Adys Taber of Cedar Falls; a step-father, Elmer Tufte of Cedar Falls; and 13 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing.
