Alice Thornton

Alice Warren Thornton, 91, of Waukon died Saturday, July 26, 1997 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28 at Martin Funeral Home and the burial of the ashes was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing.

She was born Aug. 23, 1905 in Edgerton, WI, to Thomas and Mary Ann (Sullivan) Warren. The family moved to the Village Creek area of Allamakee County, where she attended rural schools.

Jan. 1, 1925 Alice married Frederick Thornton in Waukon where they lived until 1941 when they moved too Waukegan, IL. For 25 years, she was a seamstress at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, IL.

Frederick died in 1971 and Alice moved to Forsyth, MO to live with her daughter, Betty. In 1987 she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Clark of Waukon, a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Thornton of Kenosha, WI; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Warren and Ronald; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Thomas, and five sisters, Elizabeth Warren, Catherine Jeglum, Mayme Moe, Marguerite Shafer and Helen Kinstler.
