Laura Ida Schlitter, daughter of Herman and Emma (Genz) Hensel, was born at Watson, Iowa on March 22, 1888. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon on February 2, 1973.

She was united in marriage to William Schlitter on February 28, 1912 at Watson. She spent all of her life in the Monona area, spending the last several years as a resident in the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Mrs. Schlitter was preceded in death by her husband, William; two sons, Dayton and Alfred; one step-son, Floyd; and three brothers, Arthur, Dewey and William Hensel. She leaves to mourn her: four daughters, Mrs. Keith (Verna) Chalder of Dubuque, Mrs. Leonard (Florence) Plozel of McGregor, Mrs. Robert (Adeline) McFarland of Madison, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Valdean (Alice) Palas of Dubuque; three sons, Howard of Waterville, Harvey of West Union, and Robert of Allison. There are also four step-children: Herb and Lester Schlitter of Monona, Fred of Waukon, and Mrs. Elsie Kutzbach of Farmersburg; four sisters, Mrs. Lulu Schlitter and Mrs. Mayme Fett of Monona,Mrs. Leonard (Grace) Wagner of Ossian, and Miss Lillian Hensel of Waukon; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Pilgrim United Methodist Church on Sunday February 4, 1973 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Pacholke officiating. The organist was Mrs. Justus Kammerer and vocal music was provided by mixed quartet of Mrs. John Wachter, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Turner, and Harlan Hass. Pallbearers were Terry Tilleras, Stanley Ewing, Harland Kutzbach, Arno Schlitter, William Schlitter, Leo Schlitter, Arden Schlitter, and Robert Wiesensel. Burial was in the Council Hill Cemetery at Watson, Iowa.
