Obituary from the Waukon Democrat newspaper Sept. 10, 1890

Death Of Henry Kosbau

Henry Kosbau, one of the oldest settlers in Allamakee county, who came here from Chicago by ox team with a friend about 40 years ago when a young man, died at his farm home east of town last Saturday forenoon of stomach troubles, and was buried on Monday last in the German cemetery south of town. Mr. Kosbau was born in Koeslgsmark, Germany, May 22, 1816. He came to America when about 30 years of age, working in and around Chicago as a laborer until he came to this county as above stated. He was poor and worked out by the day, but by that industry and frugality so characteristic of the Germans, he prospered and added from year to year to his acres. Sept. 16, 1853, he married Miss Schorman who he leaves a widow. He also leaves two sons and one daughter to each of whom he gave a farm when they were married, and they are all living in this vicinity. He was an honest, upright and conscientious Christian and a member of Rev. J. Christ's church, by whom the funeral services were conducted. The funeral was very largely attended.
