Bonnie Brannan

Bonnie R. Brannan, 85, of Lansing, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 23 at St. Ann's - St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Paint Rock Cemetery, Harpers Ferry at a later date.

Bonnie Regina Brannan was born July 2, 1928 in Harpers Ferry, the daughter of John and Anna (Healy) Brannan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. Bonnie graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1945 and attended the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, where she lived and worked until 1957. Bonnie then moved to Cedar Rapids, where she worked at Square D, now called Schneider Electric, retiring in 1989. She lived in Cedar Rapids most of her life and moved to Lansing in July of 2013 to be closer to her niece and nephew, Sheila Diggins and Joe Hogan, both from Harpers Ferry.

After retiring she enjoyed traveling, attending theatre productions, playing Bridge, volunteering for the National Kidney Foundation, and having lunch with her friends. Bonnie was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a trip to the Emerald Isle with her brother and sister-in-law. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with her classmates from Harpers Ferry and often helped with the planning of class reunions. Bonnie liked watching sports; she played basketball in high school and college. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her brother, Joseph (Mary) Brannan of Wauwatosa, WI; and several nieces and nephews, Joe Hogan, Sheila Diggins, Mary Ann Nielsen, John Severson, Jerry Mullarkey, Tom Mullarkey, Eileen Braatz, John Brannan, Mike Brannan, Mary Jo Herro, Patricia Brannan, Anne Hruz and Susan Brannan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Stella Brannan, Connie Hogan, Mary Severson and Joan Mullarkey; and a brother, Thomas Brannan.

Casketbearers were Ryan Hogan, Tony Becker, Nic Barnhart, Joe Hogan and Tom Diggins.

Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
