Robert Francis Kernan
Robert Francis Kernan, 60, of lansing died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), an illness he accepted and faced with courage and dignity.

Bob was born January 4, 1942, in Dubuque to Francis and Leonette (Mullarkey) Kernan. he grew up on the family farm in Wexford, attending Russell School and graduating in 1959 from Lansing Kee School.

October 1, 1966, Bob married Mary K. Collins at St Ann's Church in Harpers Ferry. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and was a member of the American Legion. He was a dedicated and valued employee at Brannan's Construction Co. in Lansing for 40 years.

He enjoyed the challenge of being told something couldn't be done, solving the problem and seeing the project be a success. He used this skill making adaptive equipment for his own illness and for others.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Kelli (Mark) Roskopf of Solon, Karen (Denny) Mauss of Robins, and Kristi Hanson of Cedar Rapids; three precious grandchildren, Jenna and Jake Roskopf, and Brandon Mauss; parents, Francis and Leonette Kernan of Lansing; brothers, Bill of Munds Park, Ariz., Jack (mary Ann) of Winter, Wis., Jerry (Anne Collins) of Stoddard, Wisc., and Deny (/jami) of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Marilyn (Dave) Clarkin of Hokah, Minn.; mother-in-law, Genieve Collins of Lansing; sister-in-law, Kathy (Jim) McGettigan of LaCrosse, Wis.; and brothers-in-law Mike (Teri) Collins of Harpers Ferry, and Jerry (Maralyn) Welsh of Lansing.

Bpb preferred that no visitation be held. If you would like to remember him, please visit, call, or drop a note to a shut-in, as these things meant so much to him these past weeks. Private funeral services were held with burial at Gethesemane Cemetery in Lansing.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

God saw that he was getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around him
And whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes, we watched him
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hardworking hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
