MAURICE KELLY, AERIAL GUNNER, DIES IN ITALY

Harpers Ferry, Ia.-Special: Mrs. Ida Kelly, postmistress here, was notified Tuesday afternoon that her son, Maurice, waist gunner on a bomber, was killed in action in Italy on May 5.

She had received word on May 23 that he was missing in action, and a week later word that he and two other members of the crew bailed out and were safe. The family believes that death occurred on another bombing mission.

He was born in Harpers Ferry and graduated from high school here. He entered service in 1943, at Davenport, Ia., where he was employed. He went overseas in April of this year. He was home on furlough here and with relatives in Waukon, Ia., last November.

Surviving are his mother; four brothers, two of them in the service. Joseph, in North Africa, Clement, at Camp Roberts, Calif., Lawrence, a member of the Jesuit order, now at St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s, Kans., and Leon, of Dubuque, Ia., and a sister, a nun, Sister Paschal, Visitation Academy, Dubuque.
