ANOTHER GOOD MOTHER CALLED TO HER REWARD

Mrs. James Kernan who was born October 3, 1881, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Shields in Wexford Parish, passed to her eternal reward at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the State Hospital at Iowa City.

Mrs. Kernan had been in poor health for several years. She was taken to St. francis Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, for treatment several years ago and this summer was taken to St francis Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., for medical aid. The doctors there advised taking her to Iowa City for treatment.

Mr and Mrs James Kernan were united in the holy bonds of wedlock at Immaculate Conception Church, Wexford, by Rev. Thos. Laffan Jan. 7, 1903. To this union the following children were born: Mrs. Raymond Cahalan, of Cherry Mound; Mrs. Mel May, Waukon; Kathryn, Vincent, Mrs. Chester farley, John, Mrs Harry Boardman and Cyril of Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Three children preceded Mrs. Kernan in death. Mrs. Kernan is also survived by ten grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Shields of Decorah and Wm. Shields of Harpers Ferry; and a sister, Mrs Harry Smith of Wauseka, Sask., Canada; and the following half brothers and sisters - Mrs. John Hennesy, Waukon, Iowa; Peter of Bird Island, Minn.; Joseph of Dubuque; Mrs. Will Cota, Ben, Dan and Phillip of Harpers Ferry.

Mrs Kernan was a good Christian mother. Her main object in life was to serve God, her family and her neighbor in the spirit of Christian charity.

Funeral services were held at Wexford Saturday morning and in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Father White, Father Costelleo of Paint rock offered up Mass of requiem and preached the funeral sermon, also officiating at the graveside in the cemetery beside the church. Pallbearers were John F. Mooney, Joseph Delaney, F.J. Robinson, Ben Luth, Leo Martelle, Joseph Joyce, E. J. Valley and Joseph Wagner.

The following relatives and friends from a distance attended the funeral: Peter Gavin, Bird Island, Minn.; Jos. Gavin, Dubuque; Mr and Mrs Simon Kernan, Madison, Wis.; M. J. Kernan, Leo Kernan and daughter Velo, Belmond, Iowa, Mrs Agnes Broderick, Ossian; John LaTronche, New Albin, and Mr and Mrs Bill Nelson of Mabel, Minn.
