Rites Wednesday
For M. J. Kernan;
Died at Age 89

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Francis Catholic church for Michael Kernan,who died Sunday at a Mason City nursing home at the age of 89 years, six months and 25 days. Requiem Mass was ung by Rev. Raymond Bohrer of Rockwell, cousin of the deceased, and the sermon was delivered by Rev. R. A. Ormsby.

Pallbearers were James, Joseph and Francis Delaney, Hugh conway and Francis kernan, all relatives of Mrs. Kernan from Harpers Ferry; and Cleatis Harty. Burial was in St Francis cemetery.

Michael John Kernan was born May 5, 1868 at Wexford in Allamakee county, the oldest son of Patrick and Bridget Mooney Kernan. The Kernan family lived on a farm and Michael was educated in the rural schools near Wexford and later attended school in Decorah.

In 1892, Mr Kernan came to Meservey. He wed Aurelia Sullivan in December of 1896. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kernan.

Besides his wife and five children he is survived by three brothers, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
