Postville Herald, Thursday, 30 Sept. 1920.

Charity McDonald, daughter of Duncan and Jane (Green) McDonald, was born in Postville, Wisconsin, January 1, 1849. The year following her birth family moved to Iowa, settling on the present town site of Postville, where they lived for many years before moving to Missouri where both passed away.

Charity grew to womanhood in this community, and in 1869 was united in marriage with William Harris. They are the parents of six children, all of whom are living- Herman Harris of Postville; Bertha, wife of Darius Orr, Postville; Edith, wife of Erni Churchill of Monroe, Wis.; Edna, wife of Fred Oehring of McGregor; Glessnor, wife of Arthur Webster, and Adelaide, wife of Otto Beucher, both of Postville. Mrs. Harris is also survived by eight grandchildren; also, one brother, B. H. McDonald of Mt. Vernon, Mo.

Coming to Iowa in the early days, Mrs. Harris has seen it change from an indian-ridden prairie to the prosperous and well tilled state it is today. As the daughter and the wife of pioneer farmers, Mrs. Harris did her full share and gave her strength without stint to the hard work of development. Postville does not forget the debt it owes to such strong pioneer women. Without doubt the generous spending of her physical strength in the early days served to shorten her life. In the past few years that strength has failed. Husband and children did all that could be done to lighten the burden, but the efforts to regain health failed. Mrs. Harris passed away in Chicago, September 26, 1920.

Quiet and home loving, those knew Mrs. Harris best who knew her in her home. She was a loyal supporter of the work of the Congregational Woman's Society to the day of her death. Church and community join the family in mourning the loss of wife and mother.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church in Postville on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. W. Wiltberger. Interment in Postville cemetery.
