Sadness spread over our little town last Thursday afternoon when word reached here that John Cavin, a section hand, had been found dead near Hayes Lake. He was lying in the snow against a bank some 15 or more feet from the track, when Levi Boltz, who was walking up the track, detected the form, and upon investigation found it to be that of Mr. Cavin. Judging from the bruise on the side of his head and the way he was hurled against the bank, one cannot but think he must have been struck by a train, which is the general supposition. The little handcar stood near the track, while the gasoline can was near the prostate form. Just how the accident happened may never be known, but we do know that Mr. Cavin was a faithful man, very dependable and always on the job. He had been at this work for thirty odd years and regardless of the weather he was always at his post of duty, and will be greatly missed.- New Albin News in Allamakee Journal.
