Almira J. Cheadle was born in Vermillion county, Indiana, Sept. 12, 1841. She came with her parents to Allamakee county, Iowa, in 1849, She was married to Horace R. Wells, March 20, 1872. They lived on their farm 2 1/2 miles northwest of Postville for 40 years, then moved into Postville in April 1912, where she spent the remainder of her life. She united with the United Brethren church when 19 years of age and later in life joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a good wife and neighbor. She leaves her husband; one sister, Mrs. D. E. Harvey of Castalia; and a nephew, Scott Cheadle of Holloway, Minn. In conversing with her sister three days before her death, she remarked that she preferred to go rather than to become a burden to others. She said she had tried to live a Christian life and from her conversation her future was bright. She was to all appearances improving in health, but with scarcely a moments warning on Monday morning she ceased her sufferings and entered into rest.
