Postville Herald, Thur., 9 July 1925. (Condensed).

Elbert Darwin Stiles was born in Whitesville, New York, Sept. 7, 1848, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1855, locating in Postville which remained his home continuously until 1909, when with his wife and family he located in Waterloo, Iowa. By occupation he was a carpenter, and followed that avocation with skill, industry and zeal as long as his health permitted. Ten years ago his health began to fail and since that time, except for short intervals, his frail body has been wracked with much physical suffering. About four weeks ago , feeling that his days on earth were few, he expressed a desire to be brought back to Postville to await the coming of the knight of the sable mantle, and he was brought here to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ervin, where he passed away July 2, 1925, aged 76 years, 9 months and 25 days.

Beside the widow he is survived by four children - Mrs. Blanche Ervin of Postville, Mrs. Mae Miller of Decorah, Norris and Burl Stiles of Waterloo; two sisters - Mrs. James McEwen of this city and Mrs. Chas. Skelton of Glendale, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Fraternally he was affiliated with Waterloo Lodge No. 105, A.F. & A.M., the Low Twelve Club of Waterloo and the A,O.U.W. lodge of Postville.

The funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ervin of this city, last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. F. Galloway of the Community Presbyterian church and Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, A.F. & A.M.
