Leota Pfiffner

Leota Mary Pfiffner, 93, of Lansing died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial was at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Leota was born January 20, 1920 in Lafayette Township, Allamakee County to Frank and Monica (Hogan) Wagner.

She attended country school, St. Patrick Catholic Grade School in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School. Following graduation, she lived in Michigan for a short time and then returned to Lansing.

Leota was united in marriage to Martin Leo Pfiffner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing October 17, 1944. Ten children were born to this union. Leota and Martin raised their children while living on the farm, where Leota also tended to the chickens.

She traveled extensively, was a huge Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed reading and playing cards, and loved watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. She will be greatly missed by her many loving family members.

Survivors include her children, Jim (Jan) Pfiffner of Harpers Ferry, Carolyn (Jack) Gagermeier of LaCrescent, MN, Mary (Joe) Egan of Waterville, Betty (Mike) Ramsey of Spartanburg, SC, Joan (Mike) Reburn of New Albin, Michael Pfiffner of Lansing, and Tom (Rita) Pfiffner of Waukon; her daughter-in-law, Laure Manning of Lansing; 14 grandchildren, Bridget Adam, Steve Pfiffner, Kevin Gagermeier, Kris Gagermeier, Jenny Monroe, Jessie Corwin, Kelli Egan Mennen, Ben Reburn, Heidi Reburn, John Reburn, Erin Plein, Amy Evanson, Allyson Ramsey and Danny Pfiffner; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Dolores Walleser, Bernice Walleser and Lucille Wesseln; 2 brothers, Kenny (Doris) Wagner and Clair (Cathy) Wagner; 6 sisters-in-law, Ginny Wagner, Margaret Ann Wagner, Anna Mae Adam, Rita Asleson, Dorothy Halverson and Leona Welsh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leota was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Monica Wagner; her husband, Martin Pfiffner, March 12, 1984; three sons, Jerry Pfiffner, Bob Pfiffner and Roger Pfiffner; and two brothers, Cletus “Bud” Wagner and Mel Wagner.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, is helping the family with the arrangements.
