A. B. Cayton, son of James Cayton, was born in Hancock Co., Ohio, in 1838, and died at the home of his son, C. L. Cayton, at Withee, Wis., Oct. 24, 1916, having reached the age of 78 years and three months. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1849. He was married in 1861 to Nancy Jane, daughter of Frank and Margaret Jones, who died in Hardin, June 25, 1914. He was a member of the U.B. church. He is survived by one son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"Ab" Cayton was one of the oldest and most widely known residents of this section, a quiet and peaceable citizen, one of the common people. He endured many of the vicissitudes and hardships which fell to the lot of the pioneer and helped pave the way for better things for those of later generations, and many there are who will be sorrowed to learn he is no more.

The funeral was held from the Hardin M.E. church, Oct. 27th, conducted by Rev. P. M. Phillips of Postville. Interment in Hardin cemetery.
