Ruby Lawson

Ruby Lawson, daughter of John and Carolyn (Harris) Hammel, was born July 3, 1894 at Postville and passed away at her home in Postville, May 31, 1966. Mrs. Lawson was born on a farm in Post township, where she spent her early life. She received her education in the rural schools of that township.

On October 30, 1912 she was united in marriage to Frank Lawson of Postville. They started farming and continued in that occupation until about six years ago when they retired and moved to town. To this union was born three children: Gordon and Leslie of Postville and Marie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ralph and Leonard, two sisters, Verna and Stella, and one grandchild, Rita Marie.

She is survived by her husband and three children; two grandchildren, Beverly and Laura; two brothes, Charlie Hammel of Milwaukee, and Earl Hammel of Frankville; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Folsom, Mrs. Sherman Lawson, a twin sister, Mrs. LaRue Webster, all of Postville and Mrs. Pearl McDonald of San Diego, California; also a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lawson was active in several organizations, The Grand Meadow Country Club and the Birthday Club. She was a member of the Postville Community Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Naomi Circle of the Women's Association of that church. Her interests were divided among her family, home, church, and welfare of her friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2:00 p.m., at the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. W.T. Martin in charge, assisted by Rev. Curtis Webster and Rev. Dick Harberts. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
