Pat Delaney

Pat J. Delaney, 81, of Waukon died Monday, April 22, 2013 at his home in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, April 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery at Milford Saturday, April 27. Martin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Patrick James Delaney was born March 7, 1932 in Lake Park, the son of Francis and Pauline (Grismer) Delaney. His mother died when he was seven years old. Pat's father Francis married Louise Jung when Pat was nine years old. He graduated in 1950 from Excelsior Consolidated School in Lake Park, and then helped his father on the farm.
Pat entered the U.S. Army in January 1953 and was sent to Korea, serving with the 44th Engineering Battalion. He was awarded a bronze star and was honorably discharged in 1954.
January 10, 1955, Pat married Norma Jean Rouse of Spirit Lake, and they had two sons, Joe and Bill. June 10, 1977, he married Connie White of Waukon and adopted her son, Jeremy. Pat farmed near Lakefield, MN for several years and then joined the Lake Park Bank as a loan officer until 1968. He then joined Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank in Waukon as a loan officer. In 1976, he purchased Allamakee Realty in Waukon. Pat also owned Northeast Iowa Land Company until he sold it in the 1990s. He continued to be active in real estate and agriculture until his death.
Pat was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Being a veteran was very important to him, and he was also a member of the Waukon VFW. Pat loved the outdoors: hiking the Allamakee County woods and Mississippi River bluffs, fishing the boundary waters of Canada, vacationing in the north woods of Wisconsin, and taking fishing trips to northern Minnesota with his sons. Pat lived in many areas, but fell in love with northeast Iowa after moving there.
Having a great sense of humor, Pat loved to kid people and also appreciated humor in others. He also had an interest in both modern and ancient history. Mostly, Pat enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Pat is survived by his three sons, Joe (Linda) of Dubuque, Bill (Kelly) of Waukon, and Jeremy (Jessica) of Decorah; nine grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Quinton, Alyssa, Ryan, Skye, Storme, Ashley and Aana; and his longtime special friend, Roberta “Bobbie” Becker of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother Louise and his brother, Terry Delaney.
Honorary casketbearers were Dave Baumgartner, Randy Buddenberg, Mike Peterson, Dennis DeBuhr, Floyd Ingles and Dan Liddiard. Casketbearers were Jack, John and Paul Delaney, Denny and Lyle Schulte, and Dick Sullivan.
