James J. Sweeney
James John Sweeney, 68, died Tuesday, June 4 at his home in rural Waukon. Services were held Friday, June 7 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s church, Lycurgus with Fr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 6, 1922 in Waukon, he was the son of James L. and Mary E. Howe Sweeney. James attended Howard school in Makee Township and lived his entire life on the farm settled by his great-grandparents from Ireland over 100 years ago. He was a farmer and a member of St. Mary’s Church, Lycurgus.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret Mary Sweeney of Waukon.
Casket bearers were Kevin Howe, Dennis Troendle, Joe Sweeney, Rick Welper, Gary Welsh and Dan Buege.
Honorary bearers were Jerry Bulman, John Regan Jr., Joe Welsh and Terry Welch.
