Cletus J. McKee

Cletus J. McKee, 72, Harpers Ferry, Iowa, formerly of Lansing, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa.

Cletus James McKee was born in May’s Prairie in rural Lansing Iowa, the son of Ernest and Ada McKee. He was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Lansing, Iowa. Cletus attended school at Lansing where he graduated from high school and married Joan Sess in 1959. Cletus worked in Dubuque for the Dubuque Pac, and shortly thereafter moved back to Allamakee County to farm where he became a member of the United Methodist Church in Lansing in 1971. He continued to enjoy farming until 1986 raising dairy, beef, hogs and crops. After farming, he moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked as a concrete truck driver during the day and flipped burgers in the evenings at the Circus Circus. Cletus then started up his own residential and commercial concrete business, McKee Construction. Cletus was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2011 at which time he moved back to Iowa where he resided at Northgate Care Center.

Cletus loved to dance and listen to music and continued to dance even as a resident at Northgate. He enjoyed his life on the farm, boating, snowmobiling, meeting new people and spending time with friends and family.

Cletus is survived by his wife, Tamatha McKee from Las Vegas, NV; his four children, Steve (Kelli) McKee of Harpers Ferry, IA, Monte McKee of Moberly, MO, Robin (Reggie) Adam of Monona, IA and Mikee McKee and friend Everett Hunley of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Elaine (Ron) Hohnecker of Dubuque, IA and Janice (Tom) Kinley of Harpers Ferry, IA; two grandchildren, Tiffany (Mike) Handke and Spencer Adam; and his dear friends, Mary Porter (Mother of Mikee McKee, Chrissy Porter (Children Rayne, Coral and Zane) and Denny Porter; and three step grandchildren, Jessi, Nathan and Kelvin Guyer and two step great grandchildren, Trevor Howard and Nalla Billmeyer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ada McKee.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lansing, Iowa. The Rev. Kevin Smith will officiate.

Thornburg – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
