Postville Review, Fri., 5 May 1899.

DIED- At his home 12 miles south of Waukon, April 29th, 1899, after a brief illness, Chester H. Spencer.

He was born in Waukon, Aug. 17th, 1871, where he received his education and grew to manhood. While yet in his teens he learned the harness trade and became an expert. When he attained his majority he went into business for himself and conducted it for six years. His health failed and he moved onto the farm home he now leaves, hoping for renewed vigor. He was a young man of good character and ability, liberal in his belief, honored virtue and true worth wherever found, and was social and kind and ever ready to lend a helping hand to those about him. He was an honored member of the I.O.O.F. and had passed through nearly all the chairs. The order had charge of the services. He was also a member of the M.B.A.

Aug. 25th, 1897, he married Mary J. Clark and their union was a very happy one. He leaves to mourn his loss, wife, father, mother, one brother, Edward C., and two sisters, Mrs. E. H. Fourt, of Waukon, and Vesta. He was the first to break the family circle and their loss is hard to bear.

There was a short service at the house, and he was taken to the Presbyterian church in Waukon, Rev. VanNice officiating.

A separate item in the same paper and date, under Luana News is as follows:

Died- At his home north of town, Friday evening, April 28, Chester H. Spencer, son of E. K. Spencer, of Waukon. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, who had the funeral in charge, also a member of the M.B.A. He was married to Mary Clark, of Hardin, Aug. 25, 1897. The interment was at Waukon.

Mrs. Dell Farnham, of Maynard, Ia., sister of Mrs. Chester Spencer, came in time to attend the funeral.
