James E. Stock

James E. Stock was born in Waukon to parents Robert O. and Marion (Kiesau) Stock on August 20, 1949. He died at University Hospital in Iowa City on June 19, 1992. He was 42.

James was educated at the Ludlow rural elementary school. In 1967 he graduated from Waukon High School. In 1971 he graduated from Iowa State University in Dairy Science. On August 3, 1984 he married Peggy Davy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon.

He belonged to several clubs and organizations, including the Northeast Iowa and National Jersey Cattle Club, various dairy organizations, Allamakee Community Players, and local barbershoppers. Jim was very active at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir, served as an elder and taught Sunday School.

Jim enjoyed collecting crystal, Sheltie dogs, gardening and raising flowers, and he was also interested in reading pedigrees of animals (cattle, dogs, etc.) as well as family histories.

Earlier this month Jim was named "Outstanding Dairyman" by the Allamakee Dairy Association.

Survivors include his wife Peggy; his twin 3-year old son and daughter, Ian and Megan; his parents, Robert and Marion Stock of Waukon; his sisters, Sue (Danny) Schlitter of Waukon and Mary (John) Holthaus of Waukon; and his brother Jack (Jan) Stock of Titonka, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, the Rev. James Elvig and the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery in rural Postville. Casket bearers were Kent Schlitter, Rob Schlitter, Andy Schlitter, Lyle Guese, Dennis Cline and Russ Hagen.
