Postville Review, Fri., 24 Feb. 1905.

Esther E. Thompson was born in Warren county, Pa., Oct. 10, 1820, and died at her home in this city Sunday, Feb. 19, 1905, in her 85th year. She was married to Samuel W. Couson, of Warren county, Pa., Aug. 1, 1839, where they resided until the spring of 1854, when they came to Iowa locating on their present farm in Grand Meadow, three miles east of Postville. Here they remained until the spring of 1888, when they rented the farm and came to Postville in hopes of more comfort in their declining years. On Feb. 20, 1895, her constant companion of 56 years was called to his long home.

Mother Courson, while in her youth, experienced religion and remained true to her faith until the last. For the past ten years her membership has been with the Postville M.E. church. She was tireless in her devotion to her family, and ever ready to lend a helping hand.

She was the mother of seven children, two of whom, Robert Marion and Samuel Wilson, died in infancy. The remaining five are, Mrs. M. L. Alward and Anthony W. Courson of Postville, Iowa; Mary M. Stowe, Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Wilson W. and Elmer T. Courson, of Clarion, Iowa, all of whom were present.

We lay the body to rest, submitting to the will of God knowing that He doeth all things well, and believing that she waits with joy the ressurrection morn.

The funeral was held from the late home on Thursday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. W. Robinson, after which the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Postville cemetery.
