Postville Review, Fri., 16 Oct. 1908.

Moses Young McMaster, a native of St. Albans, Vermont, passed away at his home in Postville, Iowa, Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 1908, in his eighty-second year, death resulting from heart failure. Leaving Vermont in 1856 he came to Clayton Co., Iowa, settling on land on Pleasant Ridge. He married Martha J. Wright, Oct. 11, 1863; four children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy; the widow and two daughters - Miss Jennie McMaster and Mrs. M. B. Morgan - survive him. He moved to a farm in Grand Meadow township in 1863, living there until 1874, when he purchased a place at the east edge of Postville where he has resided continuously since. In his earlier years he was a member of the Baptist church, but since his residence in Postville he has attended the Methodist church.

Mr. McMaster was a genial, companionable man, a good citizen and neighbor, known by everyone for miles around. He believed that life was largely what one chose to make it and to be enjoyed as we pass along, and in a reasonable and rational way he perhaps got as much joy out of this life as most men do. He lived not to himself alone, but scattered sunshine along his way that his family and friends might share it too, and seldom were the clouds of sorrow so dense he could not penetrate them with his quaint and humorous philosophy. Time slowed his step and turned his locks to snowy-white, yet in spirit he was ever young. In the fullness of years a good man has gone to his reward. Peace to his ashes.

The funeral was held from the M.E. church Friday afternoon last conducted by Rev. C. E. Smith. Interment in Postville cemetery.
