Thomas Beardmore Dies Thursday in Charles City
Judge Thomas Alfred Beardmore, 96, a resident of Charles City since 1914 died Thursday morning, May 22, in the Floyd County Memorial hospital. Death was attributed to a heart condition.
Funeral services Saturday, May 24 were at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church. Rev. James Harwood, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and World War I veterans. Hage funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
Thomas Beardmore was born Oct. 27, 1883 in Allamakee county, the son of Alfred and Emma Bulman Beardmore. He received his education in the Waukon high school. In 1908 he graduated from the University of Iowa law school and started his law practice in Charles City in 1909. He was appointed district judge in 1931 and served in that capacity until 1965 when he retired. Since then he has been associated with his son in the Beardmore law firm. On Feb. 19, 1914, he married Georgia Slinger in Charles City. She died in 1977. He served in the Mexican Border war in 1916 and was a veteran of World War I, having been a captain in the Army. He also commanded the National Guard Company E, 168th division. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, American Legion, of which he was the first commander, member of the Iowa State Bar association and served as Floyd county attorney, having been elected in the capacity in 1916.
