Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon for longtime Waukon chiropractor Dr. Roy C. Bakkum, 76.

Dr. Bakkum died early Monday, Dec. 3, at Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon. He was born in Allamakee county June 10, 1903, the son of H.R. and Carrie Larson Bakkum. He graduated from Waukon’s high school, attended Valders business college in Decorah, Humphrey Institute and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

June 6, 1928, he and Jessie Hubbard were married at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She survives, as do their children, Dr. Robert Bakkum of Waukon, and Mrs. John (Delores) Nolan of Wanganui, New Zealand. Also surviving are three grandchildren and two brothers, Arnold of Waukon and Dr. William of Manchester.

He was a member of St. John’s Church, and the Rev. Marlyn Hansing will officiate at services and at the burial in Old West Paint Creek cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Barthell Bakkum, Allan Bakkum, Hjalmer Olson, Rudolph Larson, Alton Hanson and Otto Thorstenson.

Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
