Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, 1983 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin for Edward J. Meyer, who was killed Monday evening, February 21 in a pickup-train collision in New Albin.

Rev. Robert Rahe officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born February 25, 1892 in New Albin, the son of Fred and Marie Timmerman Meyer.

He married Lucy L. Higgins in 1914. She preceded him in death in 1977. He was a retired businessman, having owned and operated a grocery store in New Albin for many years.

He is survived by a son, Virgil, of Chariton; a daughter, Mrs. Peter (Dolores) Hartley, of New Albin; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Meyer, and a sister, Mrs. Ann Pohlman, both of New Albin.

Pallbearers were Patrick Hartley, Michael Hartley, Daniel Hartley, Stephen Meyer, James Meyer, Philip Meyer, Raymond Meyer and Edward Meyer.

The Burke-Thornburg funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
