Wausau Fire Claims Life of 2nd Person

A former Lansing woman has died of smoke inhalation resulting from the same fire which claimed the life of a rural Eastman man in Wausau earlier this week.

Beth O’Malley, 25, Wausau, daughter of Dennis J. and Kathleen (Spinner) O’Malley, Lansing, died Saturday, Jan. 5, in Wausau Medical Hospital. She had had been a patient there since Dec. 30 when a fire in her apartment caused the death of Thomas J. Malin, 24.

Malin, who was formerly of Genoa, was visiting Miss O’Malley. He also died of smoke inhalation.

Miss O’Malley was born on May 10, 1954 in Waukon, Iowa. She was an accounting clerk with the city of Wausau.

Survivors are her parents; three brothers, Tim of Lansing, Mark of Vernal, Utah, and Jon of Lansing; five sisters, Ann of La Crosse, Joan of Winona, and Kim, Peggy and Erin, all of Lansing; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Flynn of Waukon; and her maternal grandfather, Ray Spinner of Waukon.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. The Rev. Ed Lechtenberg will officiate and burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Friends may call at Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, after 2 p.m. Sunday.
