Orrie Gilson’s Funeral Held on August 3

Orrie N. Gilson, 89, of Waukon, died on Friday, July 31, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon, where he had been a resident for several years. He was born January 27, 1892 in Post township. His parents were John Preston and Elizabeth Segrist Gilson. He was educated in local schools and was a farmer. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Waukon. He married Mary Amundson March 24, 1913. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Everett (Myrtle) Drahn of Monona, Mrs. Vance (Norma) Rosell and Mrs. Norman (Dorothy) Aldridge, both of Decorah, Mrs. Dale (Carol) Reeder of Waukon, and Mrs. Robert (Delores) Steiner of Mc Henry, Ill.; three sons, Lawrence of Eitzen, Minn., John of Waukon and Dale of Florenza, Iowa; 30 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Reva Doerring of Waukon. Deceased brothers and sisters are Lucy and Dott, Albert, John and Fred, and twin brothers who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held August 3 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s with Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Krambeer, Dean Krambeer, Warren Anderson, Robert Rosell, Brad Krambeer and Lanny Scheffert. Hanson funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
