Elizabeth Jane Kerrigan died on Tuesday morning the tenth of November at Misericordia Hospital in Milwaukee after a lingering illness. A daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah Kelly Kerrigan, Elizabeth was born January 22, 1889 in Iowa Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. Miss Kerrigan attended the local schools and was graduated in the La Crosse Normal School class of 1911. She was a primary teacher in New Albin before teaching in Canton, Minn. and at the La Crosse Vocational School.

In 1920 she moved to Milwaukee, Wis. and for a time continued to teach commercial subjects at Milwaukee Vocational School. In 1922 she became an agent for the New York Life Insurance Company, a position which she held for more than forty years.

Elizabeth Kerrigan’s genuine interest in people, her wit, and her skill as a story teller endeared her to a wide circle of friends. She was a charter member of La Lumiere League and a member also of the Confraternity of Pilgrims, the St. Rose Sodality and the Happy Death Society of Gesu Church, the Third Order of St. Francis, the Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary, and the Apostolate of Suffering.

Miss Kerrigan was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary, and two brothers, William and Jack.

Survivors are two nieces Mary Alice Kerrigan, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mrs. James Cahill, La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Mrs. J.T. Kerrigan, La Crosse; and cousins, Mrs. L.T. Hufschmidt, Lansing; John W. Kelly, Bernice and Gladys Caughlin, Milwaukee; Mrs. Charles Hogan, Manchester, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Her funeral was held from the Brett Funeral Home in Milwaukee to the Church of the Gesu with Monsignor Thomas Curry of Oradell, New Jersey offering the Mass of Requiem at 9 a.m. The remains were taken to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Albin, Iowa, for burial that same afternoon. Rev. Edgar Kolfenbach, Pastor of St. Joseph Church, officiated and offered prayers at the graveside.

Pallbearers in Milwaukee were Cyril and Edmund Keenan, Dr. Cornelius Geary, Thomas Scanlan, John Warden, and Tim Brennan. In New Albin pallbearers were Joseph, Harold, and Patrick Caughlin, Norbert Schulte, Charles Hogan, and George Garrity.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Monsignor Curry, Oradell, NJ; Mrs. L.T. Hufschmidt and John Brophy, Lansing; Mrs. J.T. Kerrigan, Mr. and Mrs. James Cahill, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Caughlin and family and Margaret Mary Ingles, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hogan, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. George Garrity, Austin, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Caughlin and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Murray, Hokah; Mrs. Cornelius Geary, Mrs. Thomas Scanlan, Bernice and Gladys Caughlin, Milwaukee.
