Postville Review, Sat., 4 Feb. 1882. From the Waukon Standard.
Warren Esty died at Fayette on the 12th of January, at the age of 82 years. In 1849 he moved to Postville when there was only one log house there. The winter of '49 and '50 three families occupied a small log cabin three miles northwest of the town of Postville, and together they offered up their prayers and talked of the possibilities of the future. The echo of the red man's warhoop had scarcely died along the hills; and on the very farm of the deceased were to be found their fresh made graves, this being their burial place. Over 100 of the tribe had been interred there. A most fitting place; the spot being marked by high projecting rocks. On this same river bank near by was a bark shanty, containing 400 sap troughs, ready for making sugar the next spring.
In 1868 he moved to Fayette. Eight years ago this month the wife and mother was borne to her former home for burial.
Thus has gone another of the pioneers of our county, and of Iowa. He was a member of the M.E. church for 60 years.--Waukon Standard.
