Major D. W. Reed of Waukon died Sept. 22 aged 75 years. He came from N.Y. with his parents in 1855 and settled in Center township. He served through the Civil War and was commissioned a Major. He was County Recorder for ten years and was Postmaster at Waukon from 1879 to 1897. In 1895 he was appointed Secretary of the Shiloh National Park Commission. He wrote the book "The Battle Of Shiloh."
