Viola E. Warnhoff, 96, of Waukon, died Sat., June 2, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Wed., June 6, at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with the Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Viola Esther Stock Warnhoff was born May 30, 1905, on the Ludlow Township farm of her parents, Fred and Minnie (Fogt) Stock. She was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church. She attended rural school at Ludlow #5 and Waukon High School, then business college in Mankato, MN. Viola was employed in domestic service in Madison, WI, where she was a nanny, cook, and housekeeper. She also lived in Chicago, IL, prior to her marriage.
On March 18, 1942, Viola married Edwin LeRoy Warnhoff at her parents' home in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon. After she and Edwin were married, they lived in Michigan City, IN, for a few years before moving back to Chicago. They moved to Waukon in 1974, where they retired. Viola was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, the ladies circle, and the Germany Youth Synod.
She and Edwin traveled extensively throughout the United States, mostly by bus. Viola also enjoyed dining out, reading, tatting, quilting, gardening, cooking, and listening to music.
Viola is preceded it death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Arthur, Martin, and Reuben Stock; two sisters-in-law, Luella and Emma Stock; and a niece, Joyce Stock.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Amanda Stock of Waukon; one nephew, Roger (Carol) Stock of Waukon; two nieces, Shirley (Edgar) Brainard of Waukon and Beverly (Larry) Whittle of Decorah; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers will be Aaron Whittle, Christian Cook, Mark and Matthew Brainard, Richard Hansmeier, John Simmons, and Carlton Christianson.
Viola will be missed here, but surely she is happy with her Lord and Savior in green pastures of peace and rest.
