Kathlyn "Sis" Dixon was born July 11, 1906, in San Bernardino, Calif., the daughter of Oliver A. and Catherine (Sullivan) Dixon. At an early age she moved with her family to Waukon, where she attended the local schools, taking the Normal Training course for teaching. On September 21, 1925, she married Lyle F. "Simp" Simon at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Together they operated the S&D Cafe and Simon Cleaners, both in Waukon, for many years. Following that, Sis spent several years as the society editor for Waukon Newspapers. Later she did child care for numerous Waukon families until failing health caused her to retire. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Kateri Tekakwitha Study Club. She was very active in Waukon's Centennial Celebration in 1953 and had a lot of fun with a group calling themselves the "Sisters of the Swish", so named for the sound of their long flowing dresses. Sis and Simp loved to fish together. She also enjoyed playing rummy and visiting with her friends. She was a faithful follower of the lives of her family and grandchildren, as well as all the kids she cared for earlier. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay (Bill) Gleisner of Geneva, Iowa, and Karen Lonning of Dorchester; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Simp; a grandson, Charlie Lonning; and two sisters, Mae Byrne and Sister Oliver Dixon. Casketbearers were Matt and Thomas Gleisner and Greg, Mike, and Chris Lonning.
