Postville Herald, Thur., 29 Nov. 1923.
Marion Mayfield Rounds was born in Clayton County, Iowa, Feb. 6, 1857, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Phila E. Martin, at Huron, S.D., on Nov. 20, 1923.
He was married March 30, 1879, to Abbie E. Mather. To this union were born eight children, two of whom preceded their father in death - one daughter in infancy and Jabez C. Rounds of Iroquois, July 18, 1923. His wife died Aug. 16, 1916 at Iriquois, and there are left to mourn his death five sons and one daughter - J. O. Rounds, Iroquois, S.D.; F. D. Rounds of Postville; D. J., R. H. and M. M. Rounds Jr. of Iroquios, S.D.; and Mrs. Phila E. Martin of Huron, S.D. There are also 25 grandchildren; one brother, A. J. Rounds of California; and one sister, Mrs R. N. McNally of Luana, beside a host of friends.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Iroquois, conducted by Rev. Hyde, who delivered a beautiful sermon, taking for his text the third verse of the 20th chapter of the first book of Samuel - the beautiful lesson of david and Jonathan.
Deceased was for many years a resident of this locality, where he was universally respected as an honest and upright man, and it will be with a keen pang of regret that old neighbors and friends will learn of his passing and will sincerely sympathize with those bereft.
