Mrs. William Mecklenburg, a former resident of Postville, passed away at her home in New Hampton Monday. She was 62 years old.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday in St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiating. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

She was born in August, 1877, at Pommerania, Germany, coming to the United States with her parents in 1891.

On October 22, 1902, she was married to William Mecklenburg by the Rev. Emil Bockelman, who was pastor of St. Paul's church. To this union eight children were born, three of whom preceded their mother in death. They were Minnie, Louis and Albert.

Mr. and Mrs. Mecklenburg made their home first at Highland, and later at Volga City, Postville, Chester, Nashua and New Hampton.

She became a member of the Lutheran church at Guttenberg in her girlhood and was actively engaged in all church work at the various places in which she resided.

Mrs. Mecklenburg is survived by her husband; five children, John of Harmony, Minn., Mrs. Hilda Warnke of Saratoga, Herman, William and Henry at home; Three brothers, Fred Kuhse of Postville, Rudolph Kuhse of Farmersburg and Wm. Kuhse of Froelich; and three sisters, Mrs. Ernest Brandt of Clermont, Mrs. Wm. Bareis of Postville and Mrs. Ernest Meyer of Castalia. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Anna Hoffmann of Tennes, So. Dak.

Note: The Woodmansee burial book index does not list any Mecklenburg burials in Allamakee county. Nor do the Woodmansee Notes indicate any Mecklenburg entries for any area of Postville cemetery. The obit may be wrong about her burial or her remains may have been moved at a later date and before the Woodmansee burial book came out.

Freda Maklenburg born: 1877 Aug 15 died: 1939 Dec 18 buried Postville Cemetery, area B. Father was Albert Kuhse, Mother Wilhelmina Zell, Husband William Maklenburg. (Source:Ancestry.com-Steencken Family Tree.) The obit gave surname as Mecklenburg but in the Woodmansee book, the surname is spelled Maklenburg.
