Postville Review, Fri., 4 Apr. 1902.

David Mortimer Tripp died at his home in Postville, Iowa, on Saturday, March 29, 1902, of a complication of diseases, aged 78 years.

He was born and raised in Canada. In his early manhood he came to Iowa, married, and settled in Clinton county, where he lived for several years. And when Lincoln called for volunteers he was one of the first to take up arms in defense of his country, serving his time as a private in Co. A, 16th regiment Iowa Infantry Volunteers. Receiving a honorable discharge he returned to Clinton Co., and being bereft of his wife, he with his four sons and two daughters moved to Clermont, Iowa, where soon after he was united in marriage to Frances A. Angell. He was the father of eight children, two of whom preceded him to the great beyond. For the past four years his home has been here in Postville, all of which time his health has gradually but steadily failed.

In his earlier days he was a member of the M.E. church, and although he wandered from the church he still held to the belief and had implicit faith in the saving grace of an all wise Father. Generous hearted, quiet and unassuming, he moved along with steadfast step, an honest, truthful man. Besides his wife and children he leaves a aged mother, a brother and two sisters to mourn his loss.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church Monday afternoon, March 31st, Rev. D. M. Parker of the M.E. church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Postville cemetery there to wait for the summons when the dead in Christ shall rise.
