Another Old Settler Gone.

Belvel Van Velzer died at the home of his son in this city on Tuesday, August 28th, at the ripe old age of 78 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Deceased was born at Syracuse, N.Y., March 2, 1816, where the earlier part of his life was spent. With his family he moved to Queenstown, Can., where he married. Afterward he lived in Ohio, LaPorte, Ind., and Chicago. Mrs. Van Velzer died while the family made their home at the latter place, leaving him with four children. He was married again and about '53 moved with his family to West Union. Thirty years ago he bought and moved on to the farm where he has since lived until a few weeks ago, when he came to the home of his son in this city, where he came quietly down to the end of life. The funeral took place at the Congregational church yesterday afternoon, Rev. L. S. Hand officiating. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
