Postville Review, Fri., 30 June 1905.

John Uhl was born in New York City, March 22, 1854, and died at his home in Post township, Allamakee county, Iowa, June 25, 1905, aged 51 years, 2 months and 28 days.

He was baptized in the Lutheran church in infancy. He came to Allamakee county in 1878, and Aug. 6, 1877, married Miss Ann McClintock, who with three children - Jesse Uhl, Mrs. Stella Cook and Mrs. Bertha Deering, and three step-children - Mrs. Gertie Lamborn, Fred McClintock and George McClintock - mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. John Uhl was a quiet, peaceable, honest and hard working citizen, ejoying the friendship and esteem of a large and growing circle of friends. Beginning life not under the most suspicious circumstances, but with a brave heart and willing hands he set out to win his way, and how well and faithfully he fought those who know him best can tell, and just as success was to crown his efforts an unforseen accident brought his life to a close, yet he leaves behind the memory of one who in life was honest and upright before God and man, a better heritage than which no man can bestow.

The funeral was held from the Evergreen school house Thursday, June 22, Rev. Montgomery, pastor of the U.B. church officiating. Interment in the Carithers cemetery.

As our readers know, Mr. Uhl's death resulted from intestinal injuries produced by a severe kick in the lower abdomen by a horse.
