Oliver Fay passed away Friday afternoon, April 4, at his home at Independence, following a short seige of pneumonia. He was born Sept. 5, 1890, at Postville, and his early life was spent on a farm near there. After receiving his common school education he attended the business college at Oelwein. He enlisted in the world war and fought in the battles of Argonne and St. Mihiel. When living at Independence he has had charge of an oil station until last fall when he had to quit on account of ill health. About a week before his death he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia.
In 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Berry of Wilton, Wis., and to this union four children were born. He is survived by his widow and children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fay, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Cahalan and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday April 8, at St. John's catholic church at Independence with Rev. Fr. Donohue officiating. The American Legion of Independence were pall bearers and had charge of the funeral arrangements. Interment was made in the cemetery at Postville.
