Postville Review, 5 Oct. 1906.

James Conley was born in Warren, Ohio, Jan, 21, 1854, and died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Conley, four miles northwest of Postville, Iowa, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 1906, aged 52 years, 9 months and 8 days, death being due to heart failure. The announcement of his death came as a shock to most of the community as but few knew he was in other than robust health. Jim, as he was familiarly called, was a gentle, wholesouled fellow, whose agreeable ways made friends of those with whom he came in contact. He was never married and a large portion of his life was spent assisting his mother in the conduct of the home farm. He is survived by his mother, five brothers Will Conley, of Easton, Minn.; Henry H. Conley, of Hartley, Iowa; John Conley, of Wessington Springs, S.D.; Joe Conley, of Jennings, Kas.; Geo. Conley, of Denver, Colo., and four sisters-- Mrs. Jennie Tone, of Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Maggie Thayer, of Dundas, Minn.; Mrs. Mary Cap, of Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Allie Pennicot, of Livingston, Mont., each of whom have the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. The funeral was held from the M. E. church in this city Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. W. W. Robinson officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

In this connection the family wish us to express their heartfelt thanks to all who in any manner assisted them during the illness and after the death of their beloved son and brother.
