Postville Herald, Thursday, 22 August 1929.

Miss Alice Wright Is Buried Here Friday.

Alice E. Wright was born Feb. 22, 1851, in Waukegan, Ill., and departed this life Aug. 11, 1929, in Los Angeles, Calif. When a young girl she moved with her parents to Iowa, after nine years returning to Waukegan. She attended Lake Forest Seminary and taught school in Illinois, then came to Postville, Iowa, where she was one of the first teachers in the public school. Following this she graduated from the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, also taking post-graduate work at the University of Chicago. She then taught awhile in Waukegan, after which she went west and taught in the California schools until about five years ago.

But her record as a teacher was not her only line of interest. She had always been active in churches of the community where she was residing. In her youth she joined the Methodist church at Waukegan and never removed her membership from that class. While making her last home in Los Angeles she attended the Baptist Temple , from which church friends have written a hearty compliment of her devotion to the services there, and assuring the reader that she departed this life to dwell with the host of Redeemed.

She was the seventh child of a family of eight, three of whom survive-- Mrs. Martha McMaster of Postville, Iowa; Miss Elizabeth Wright of Waukegan, Ill., and William H. Wright of San Antonio, Texas. Her brother Will was with her when she passed away and brought the remains to Postville. Also numerous nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends made at her various places as teacher, survive and mourn their loss.

A short service was held at Los Angeles and final services were held in the Community Presbyterian church at Postville on last Friday afternoon, Rev. D. F. Myers, pastor of the U. B. church officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery.
