Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 2:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon for Benjamin A. Davis, a resident of Postville the past four years who had served the community as mayor for two terms. The Rev. Walter T. Martin, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Maynard, was in charge of the rites; burial was in Oakland cemetery, Waukon.

Benjamin Ami Davis, son of John and Lodema Davis, was born September 21, 1886 in Franklin township, Allamakee county. He was united in marriage to Mary Matilda Colvin on October 25, 1906 in Waukon. Mr. and Mrs. Davis are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Paul A. Nierling (Helen), Cresco, Mrs. Francis Lehman (Evelyn), Iowa City, and Mrs. Delton Winters (Marion), Dubuque.

Mr. Davis farmed for a number of years until he was elected sheriff of Allamakee county in 1922, when he and his wife moved to Waukon. He also served as deputy sheriff and later bought right of way for the Interstate Power Company over a period of 20 years. Mr. Davis spent the last 14 year of his life in Postville, following his marriage to Mrs. Nan Ewing. During this time he served four years as mayor.

Mourning his death are: his wife Nan; three daughters; three step-daughters; one step-son; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Rupp and Mrs. Evora Davis Fiete, both of Waukon; three brothers, Lester of Bruce, Wisconsin, Arthur of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Leo of Ripon, Wisconsin; seven grand-children and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and four brothers, Charles, Carl, Burl and Jake.
